Frequently asked questions

Does it warn me if I close the app or lock the phone?

No. UnplugFirst only warns while it is open in night mode, with the screen on. If you close it, lock the phone or switch apps, there is no warning.

Will it keep my phone from falling?

No. It warns you before the cable pulls, so you can unplug first. It is a reminder, not a guarantee.

Why does the screen stay on?

To warn you, the app has to be open and the screen on. Night mode keeps it almost black, with five brightness levels, and never changes your phone's brightness. That is why night mode is for when the phone is charging.

Does it work with wireless charging?

On iPhone, yes: iPhone does not tell a cable from a wireless charger, so on a wireless charger it will warn too. On Android, with wireless charging there is no cable to pull, so night mode does not warn.

Silent mode and Do Not Disturb

Sound is part of the full version; the free version warns with the screen and vibration, which works on silent too. On iPhone, the warning's sound plays even on silent, while the app is open. On Android it uses the alarm volume: it plays on silent unless that volume is at zero. With sound on, if you only want vibration, turn off Sound in Settings › Warning.

How does the flashlight work?

The flashlight is part of the full version. It is off by default; turn it on in Settings › Warning and choose low, medium or high. It flashes three times and never stays on. Face down, it always uses the lowest level. On some Android phones the flashlight can only turn on and off, and if another app is using it, the warning goes on without it.

Can I leave the phone face down?

Yes. While the app stays open in night mode, the proximity sensor turns the screen off and the app keeps watching. Locking the phone or closing the app stops it.

How do I check that it works?

In Help › Test the warning, pick the phone up on purpose, over a low, soft surface and with the cable plugged in. There you can also choose the sensitivity: low, medium or high.

Does the app collect any data?

No. It has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. It only asks the App Store or Google Play whether you bought the full version. The privacy policy explains it in detail.

What is free, and what is in the full version?

Free: the warning screen, vibration, night mode with five night screens and the five brightness levels. The full version adds sound, the flashing screen, the flashlight and the Pixel clock and Pixel night screens. It is a one-time purchase, with no subscription.

How do I restore my purchase?

If you reinstall the app or move to a new phone, open the app and choose Restore purchase, signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account you used to buy it. You don't pay again.
